Steps to become a Puppy Raiser or Puppy Sitter

If you are interested in becoming a Puppy Sitter or Puppy Raiser, here are some guidelines:

  • Start attending meetings. Meetings or outings are provided on a weekly basis. We have a Monthly Obedience meeting, Little pups meeting and many different types of outings for our Sightmasters Puppy Group. This information can be found on our Calendar.
  • Attend a Graduation at the Guide Dog Campus. This is a great way to see the mission of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Graduations are every other week at the campus in Boring, Oregon. You can check their website for dates.
  • Work with a dog. We provide several meetings a month where we bring along Career Change dogs. This gives you the chance to handle a dog at a meeting. This will allow you the chance to practice some training techniques with a dog and give Leaders time to gain confidence in your dog handling skills.
  • Fill out an application & schedule home visit. Once we are confident in your dog handling skills, we move onto the application & home visit stage.

Please know that these are guidelines on becoming a Puppy Sitter or Raiser. You will be an approved Raiser or Sitter once we feel you have the skills and abilities needed.

If you have any questions, please contact one of the Leaders and we would be happy to talk to you.

Thank you for considering being a part of our Puppy Raising Club!
